A Facade of Reality
Sitting on dad’s shoulders, feeling like I’m on top of the world
Dancing with mom around the kitchen, like no one’s watching
Falling down while biking and crying at the pain, unaware of the real sorrow that has yet to come
Laughing at Sunday breakfast, thinking that we were always going to be this happy
But no more.
All good things come to an end.
I’ve grown up.
Realizing the harsh realities of the world
Scared of what life has in store for me
Screaming at the drunk driver who ran my father over
Mourning over dad’s death, without shedding a tear
Looking one last time at that smile, wishing I had cherished it more
Praying that all of this was just a dream
Wishing that things went back to how they used to be
The echoes of dad’s laugh filled up my brain
I was alone.
And we couldn’t wait to grow up.

Hi,
My name is Palitha and I am a rising senior at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. I am passionate about each thing I take up from coding programs and writing stories to volunteering and playing sports. I have been writing since I was a child and I hope to share real world issues through my writing to educate the youth on the things that are going on in the world today. In the future, I hope to instill the same love of writing I have to future generations!
