Garden
Roses leak blood
Violets rain blue
Sunflowers are shaded
Cherry blossoms rot
They used to smell sweet
And rivaled the rainbow
Each bud basked in the sun
And each petal promised me
Your smile
And your touch
And how you never asked me for much
They promised me
nights
In your arms
And how you could never do me harm
And these last few days
I’d pick up a flower
And close my eyes
Just for an hour
And in the chill
Of December
The withered silk made me
Remember
That roses leak blood
And violets rain blue
We ran out of time
And real flowers do too

Everyone knows the old "Roses are red, violets are blue" poem, but I wanted to put a twist on what happens when the flowers start to die. I saw the flowers as the beginning of a relationship and how everything looks real and long lasting, but then I remembered that they also sell fake flowers now. And so, I used the flowers as a as metaphor that even though things look nice and pretty at first, in the end the truth will come out.
