Ten Seconds
I walked through a meadow
With a strange little boy
Whose mother has an illness
His life it destroyed
Ten more seconds
Until it is over
Ten more seconds
Until it is done
Ten
Hope
Hope for hair
Hope for strength
Hope for life
Hope for dreams of pleasantries
Instead of monsters in disguise
Nine
Confusion
Confusion from the yew tree
Confusion about me
Confusion about reality
Or about dreams
Of which I cannot tell
Eight Seven Six Five
Anger that the time is going too fast
Angry at my Grandma
Angry at my Dad
Angry at the yew tree
Angry at myself
Four, Three, Two
Acceptance
I will not
I cannot
Accept the inevitable fate
One
Truth
My truth
I wanted it to end
I wanted it to be over
Lie
It is my fault
0
I accept that everything will be okay
I accept that she is gone
I accept that I will never be the same
I walked through a meadow
With a strange little boy
Whose mother has an illness
His life it did not destroy
It only changed him
Maybe not for the worse
Ten seconds ago it was over
Ten seconds ago it was done
Ten seconds ago he realized
He no longer needed to run

I wrote this piece about when I read the book A Monster Calls, I think you will still enjoy the poem even if you haven't read the book. This book resignated with me in a lot of ways, I hope you enjoy!
