He Left Me as Dust
Love cannot be tamed
Much like a fire, it burns inside us
But it often leaves us mamed
Leaving us as nothing but dust
I still remember my last love
And I never will forget
It was beautiful, like a dove
And our hearts sang in a perfect duet
However, nothing can stay the same
For nothing is fair in love and war
He made me take on all the blame
Then turned around and slammed the door
To this day, my heart still weeps
I cannot hide how much I care
And somewhere, he soundly sleeps
While I suffer from distressing nightmares
I know that this feeling will not last
And I will try to move on, as I must
But I cannot forget my broken past
Because he left me as nothing but dust

This was originally written for my English class, but it quickly became my favorite poem that I have ever written. It was written about my ex boyfriend and our toxic relationship that I endured for over a year.
