Back to Back
“Play Ball!” yelled the umpire
Cooperstown, New York
Home of The Baseball Hall of Fame
I stepped into the the batter’s box.
The pitcher, staring at me with a mad glare.
Right after my teammate’s home run smacked right before me.
All I was thinking was that I wanted to get back to back homers.
He started his windup,
threw his arm back,
and then moved it forward,
acrossed his body,
with a powerful force.
The ball was in his hand,
he had a fastball grip.
As I read the pitch,
he let go of the ball.
It was a perfect pitch to hit it a long way,
and it was coming right down the pipe.
I started my swing,
the ball hit my bat,
with all my momentum going forward.
BOOOMMMM!!!!
The ball came off my bat,
going up,
farther and farther.
It was one of the most best sights of my entire life.
The ball went over the fence,
no one could see it anymore.
Gone, I kept thinking.
As I ran around the bases,
I got a high five from my 1st and 3rd base coaches.
I got around 3rd base,
I looked up and all of teammates ran out of the dugout and crowded home plate.
As soon as i stepped on the plate they all started tackling me,
I almost fell but I made my way to the dugout standing up...
Surprised I didn’t fall from all the weight on my back.
I sat down and got a drink of water.
My head coach came up to me,
he said “Good job.”
About a minute later a parent came up to me,
he said “You hit that ball about 275 feet.”
That is almost what Major League players hit the ball.
Their home runs only go about 100 feet more than mine.
Shocked and joyful as I stared at the rest of the game.
