Color Blind
Addison watched in silence as the other girls pointed
She knew she was the one that their ugly insults taunted
It was because she was so much darker than the rest
Midnight on a bad day, dark chocolate at best
Before her mind could change, she cleared her throat and spoke
Her only prayer was that her words would not be taken
As a joke
"Many years ago, the King Jr. had a dream
Black and white together- ludicrous, it seemed
Still, he fought for integration
Was sharing fountains contamination?
And when Rosa Parks, for the sake of justice, refused to
Leave her seat
Did she do it so that some decades later, history would repeat?
You can't be black, I can't be white, so please don't judge what
Can't be changed
If God had made us the same complexion, wouldn't that feel
Somewhat strange?
Black is just a color- we're all the same inside
Our blood bleeds just as red as the blood of Jesus crucified
If you choose to dislike me, let it be for my faults and sin
But please don't hate and criticize the color of my skin"
The room was still as stone, but then burst into applause
Addison breathed a sigh of relief at having fulfilled her cause
The other girls apologized, wiping away at tears
Of course Addison forgave them, despite their honest fears
From then on, they all remembered the truth she
Brought to mind
When it comes to the color of a person's skin...
God is color blind

It was 3:53 AM and I had to bring a poem to school the very next day for the very extended deadline. I didn't have anything to write, but then came inspiration. I turned in my poem and placed 2nd at an ACE Regional Student Convention.
