The Spoken Silence
I watched him stumble, watched him fall
upon the battle field
he looked at me and I at him
'til on that ground I kneeled
His cold lips parted solemnly
the words stuck in his throat
I knew his fate could not be changed
yet, still I gave my coat
Then with his eyes he spoke to me
and in them I saw all
his life, his love, his family
lost in that fatal fall
His eyes now a burning passion
of anger and of strife
screaming I can't leave my fam'ly,
my duties, or my life
He looked to me for the answers
but sadly I had none
His memory still tears at me
That war nobody won
