When She is Alone
She would never say it
Out loud
Bit of an embarrassment
Not proud
There are things she’s bottled up inside
Things she feels she needs to hide
But I love her, and I’m the one who knows
What she does when she’s alone
She dances to a techno song
Makes up lyrics so she can sing along
Laughs at herself if she gets them wrong
And I love her more than you know
Writes poems and stories in a little black book
Count yourself lucky if she lets you look
Not many a man knows the time she took
On the intricate jumble of words
She stares at nothing and gets lost in her mind
A different look, the extraordinary kind
It makes one want to peer behind
Her starry eyes glazed by thought
She gets sad sometimes and won’t speak at all
Her hands start to shake as her world starts to fall
She weeps and curls up into a ball
And I hold her like a child
She listens to music you’ve never heard
She has made mistakes, and she has learned
I know her deepest secrets, and still have not earned
To tell her that I love her.
