If You Were Here
You’re as soft as the pillow beneath my head
A warm gentle place in my cold hard bed
I just need you here, I ask for one night
We could stare out the window and see the moonlight
You’d lay down beside me with my hand on your chest
Your arm wrapped around me, a comfortable nest
The time will move slow as we lay there and dream
We’ll make a new life out of every moonlit beam
The night will grow late as we fight off fatigue
To never fall asleep, we both will agree
Then there’ll be a time when I fall to the fire
And drift off to sleep and give in to my tire
My head on my pillow, laying cuddled up to you
You’ll think I’m asleep, but that isn’t quite true
My eyes are closed gently, feeling sleep drawing near
I feel your eyes on me, to me - that is clear
I feel you lean over as you hover above
Your lips reach to mine and I feel your warm love
Your lips are so soft and tender to the touch
If you knew I was awake then unto you I would clutch
I feel you pull away gently and move back to my side
I open my eyes slowly as I watch you lay so fine
Your eyes are closed so tightly as a tear rolls off your face
I kiss you back so sweetly, your reaction - an embrace
You kiss me back intensely and you lean up with such ease
You hold me in your arms, my desires being pleased
I pull away so softy and look you in the eye
And from the moonlight you can see that I am about to cry
We’d waited such a time for this moment to arrive
This will be the very first moment we’ve ever felt alive
You wipe my tears away and for you I do the same
We feel as if we made it to a place we can’t explain
I move to the side and let you sleep
But you just follow, my hand you keep
I look back at you to see you at peace
I lean back to you, your skin - soft as fleece
I lay my head upon your wide chest
And that is where I’ll always rest
Our hearts be fast as night fades to day
And we drift of to sleep and just slip away
