"Don't tell me the moon is shining, show me the glint of light on broken glass." Anton Chekov

Maybe when the dawn glows blue
We see not light, but fleeing souls
As quickly they are passing through
To hide before the daylight glows

Maybe when the sun spills yellow
We feel the warmth of angel wings
To blanket over wandering meadows
And feed the gift of nature's spring

Maybe when the clouds swathe forth
They shed the tears of child fairies
While spirits of the polar North
Breathe swells of snow into the prairies

Maybe when heaven burns red
We watch as lives play in the sky
Revealing what they lastly bled
Before absorbed by father Time

And always as the night is black
Eyes shut tight before they see
The misplaced light comes fluttering back
To keep us safe within our sleep
To guard above in wake and dreams.

I wrote this when the sun was rising the day after visiting my grandparents graves. It's comforting to think they may always be around, the way the sun is present at night and day.
