Bizarre Brain

Deep inside my mom
I can see some of her questions now
“What if I hadn’t done this or that?”
and in our little row home
that snowbound winter,
I was sleeping in a stroller.
My dad lost grip and I zoomed to the bottom of the stairs
He was drunk so neither of us had a clue
Another time alcohol spilled on me
We all loved my dad, and my mom overlooked these events
Now he is swerving out of the driveway, so I go tell my mom,
He got there safely but it gave us a fright
My mom made weird sandwiches made of mayo and pickles
She used to eat them with her boyfriend
In my 16th year
I can feel the slowness
In my bizarre brain
