Kisses Good Night
I hear him come up the stair.
He turns on the light in the hall and I try not to smile.
The plush carpet silences his steps as he slowly walks to my bed.
Left hand on my bottom bunk and the right on the top.
His beard tickles me as he kisses my cheek and I try not to smile.
With his forehead on mine he whispers, “I love you”.
Right hand leaves the top bunk and then the left leaves its bunk.
The plush carpet silences his steps as he walks out my room.
As he walks out my room I smile and think, “I love you too, Daddy!”
He turns out the light in the hall and tries not to yawn.
I hear him walk down the stairs and think, “Good night see you in the morning.”
Rolling over I realize I haven’t shown I was awake another night.
I fall asleep think about what shall come tomorrow.
