I am a tray of danishes
a juicy cheeseburger
a bowl of fruit
You’ll only see
on that television advertisement,
or that display case
in the front of a restaurant.
And I’ll look so damn appealing with
my bright spray-painted colors
and my flaky layers
held together by toothpicks.
Your mouth will water
if only you could get a whiff,
or take a bite
But, I won’t let you
You might want to rip
apart my glycerin-covered coating,
Gnaw on my cardboard layers,
but I’m not for your consumption.
And you’re not on my menu.
