paranoia flora
Two thin green stems lean towards each other
–tall stems too, for their peering little
Heads reach just above my window sill.
They have grown together, these plants,
With the common purpose of watching me.
Why? I do not know. But, oh, I know they are watching.
And do not think, little plants, that I do not
See your leaves turning in the breeze
Passing comments along the wind.
Do not think, little plants, that I do not
See your whole beings shiver and shake,
And know that you are snickering.
Oh these plants do not thrive on sunlight –
No, it’s their poisonous green
Gossip that feeds them.
Never before!
Has vegetation been so shameless.
Never before!
Has shrubbery been wicked.
Never before
Have plants been so devious,
As those that grow beyond
Boredom’s window.
