Mi Familia
Taught. Slack. Taught. Slack.
The seat belt does its job,
But it’s not saving any lives.
Slumped against the seat.
We’re stopped between another
Set of buildings
That flank like Greek entrance pillars
The crispy, crumbly
Delicious remains of
The burnt out apartments.
“How many times has this place caught fire?”
“How do they still get insured?”
“Man, they still have that huge flag out front.”
“I’m surprised that’s not on fire too!”
When we go out to eat
We don’t order dessert:
We rubberneck it.
