Night Falls
Night falls
A blanket of obsidian silk
Descends
Slowly, smoothly, settles into place
An ethereal barrier
Between us and the white-hot sun
Only allowing small pinpricks of light
To peek through
A promise
A reassurance
That daylight will return again
Day breaks
Explodes
Shatters into thousands, millions, of tiny shards
Pieces of pure illumination
Forced outward in blinding bursts
Pierce our walls
Our hearts
Banishing the dreaded dark
But giving life to shadows
Dark corners
Ever aware
Of its imminent surrender to night
