Embracing My Demons
To be honest, I hate you.
Yet, even with all the pain you erect inside me,
With as much as you make me plummet down,
I’m going to turn this right around.
I won’t let myself fall to the ground.
I’ll continue wearing my crown.
To the bitter end is the direction of my new journey.
Learning to embrace you is what I’ll do.
Your taste turned as bland as a saltless diet.
Your claws felt as sharp as a glass shard.
I’ll listen to you no more,
Find someone else to terrorize.
As familiar as I am to your lies,
I’ll bury you under the floor.
At first, it’ll be hard.
I can at least try it.
It’s only been a year of our acquaintance,
But, no more roaming my internal halls.
You’ll no longer control my existence,
Onto your grasp of me, the axe falls.

We were instructed to write an Ode poem in my ELA class, and I decided to take something that I dislike and write about how I was going to learn to embrace it instead.
