Ending A Winter Morning
The tiny snowflakes swirl and collide
Muffling every sound and muting all colors.
The words between us plummet down
Into a frozen well of no meaning.
Wasted breaths that frost around the flakes
Changing the situation not at all.
Our conversation is as meaningful as the snow:
Special in the air, unremarkable once fallen,
And melting away in the light of importance.
As the morning dies and the wind screams by,
I let go of all I had come to know;
With a smile I release my heart back into the wild.
Sighing from the memories, I look away for the last time
And walk silently away through the fresh snow,
Happy and warm despite the winter air;
Conent with knowledge spring is just past the horizon.
