An unimportant somebody
Once told me that
I am a "tough cookie"
And for such an honorable mention
I must not be disrespectful
And certainly thank the following
For my unintentional success:
The silenced father
Whose name I discovered
By mere chance
On a child support bill
Through mountains of dead trees
Dispersed across the kitchen counter
A lying mother
Yet loving
Beautiful, with azure eyes
Hair, the color of pure chocolate
Nevertheless...irritating.
My sick grandpa
Whose heart is so big
It's hurts for him to carry
And my runaway step dad
Who promised never to leave.
Then one day,
All that was left was
A little girl
Gripping her severed heart
Waiting for daddy to fix it
Fifteen years
One hundred and nineteen days
God only knows how many
dispensable hours of...
That.
So, is That...
Over a single decade of lies
Disappointment
Broken promises
And egregious pain
The definition of a tough cookie?
