Dandelions
Do you remember when we were small
And worries didn’t exist?
And we would run barefoot through the yard for hours?
Do you remember how you would pick dandelions as you went along,
Seeing them as nothing less than beautiful flowers?
Do you remember that day you laughed until it hurt?
Or the day you cried so hard you went numb?
Do you remember the feelings that used to dance around your eyes
And when you would proudly describe yourself as an intricate conundrum?
Now, your lights have gone out
And I can no longer see thoughts behind your eyes.
Your breaths seem so forced and too steady
And I can feel the day approaching when we say our goodbyes.
What happened to the girl that saw beauty in a common nuisance?
I guess she saw what was coming and decided to flee.
I miss that girl that thought deeply about simple things.
I miss that girl that saw beauty in me.
