An Amber Betrayal
If I were upset,
Would you hear it in my laughter?
Would you know that I was laughing,
Because of you?
I bet you wouldn't'
I bet you wouldn't dream'
Of the hurt and pain caused by you.
You wouldn't even begin to know,
The very first thing about me.
Well let me send you a wake up call.
I laugh when I'm happy, but also when I want to cry.
I smile when I'm cheerful, but also when I want to scream.
I bet you wouldn't dream'
That my grin is endless
But it's my eyes
My eyes that tell all
They let you see right through the lies
And they give me away
It's me, my heart, no not my heart, It's my soul that they betray
If you were to look you would see it all.
My eyes must be given some credit
They do not betray me fully
And yet sometimes I almost wish they would
That they would let tears flow down my face and land at your feet
Instead of staying hidden
Every time
Every single time
That we meet.
I bet you wouldn't dream'
That you could cause so much destruction to the soul
Of a young girl
That is what I am. Isn't it?
Nothing but a young girl
A young girl waiting for the day
That she can go up to you and have you say
Are you okay
And she can look down
At the ground
So that her eyes don't betray her
And say yes
And you can look at her
And you can place your hand upon her chin and tilt her head up
Look into her eyes, those pools of amber eyes, and say
Tell the truth.
