MisunderstHood
Why do we sell drugs?
Why do we love weapons?
Because Jobs aren’t fair
And we often need protection
White man applies
You seem qualified and are hired
Black man applies you’re a thug
Labeled before you can get fired
They throw a bunch of wild animals
With no training in a zoo
Gave us guns
And commanded us to shoot
If it is all that we see
What else is there to learn?
Exactly! We don’t know
But when will it be my turn
We kill our own race
To protect and provide for family members
That ounce of cocaine that he killed for
That was for his family’s dinner
Not all are raised in this situation
But in eyes of “the man”
That’s how they portray it
Move us out of the hood
Off the corners out the projects
And help us develop
So “our kind” can progress
Listen to the struggle
It sounds cool and leaves others in awe
But it being lived
It isn’t cool at all
Respect the situation
And stop jumping to conclusions
Because if America is equal
Then life is a big illusion
People wonder why
We fight, kill, and deal
Take a step in our shoes
And see how we feel
It doesn’t feel good spending nights in the dark
No hot water or electricity
The gas stove got to spark
No water going somewhere else to use the restroom
We are imprisoned before prison
Sometimes prison is just a rescue
Don’t even get me started
on the value of black lives
Well its probably already known
So lets save it for another time
