Awakening
It's like a veil over keen eyes
An arrow through the tempered heart
Tipped with a poison burdened with lies
That binds my soul so we never part
And all of a sudden my world shatters
And clarity reveals caustic reality
Your empty promises like rusted cans
Your faux kisses like temporary tattoos
I wore my heart on my knitted sleeve
And you unraveled my threads until I bled
A river of the poison you blinded me with
An ocean of lead that bears an open wound
I don't know how I ever hummed your praises
I don't know what I ever saw in your smile
What I thought you were
What I thought you could be
I don't know what I felt for you
All I know is that it wasn't love
