Shady Oak Falls
Children playing in the street
Parents laying in their bed
The father turns his sleepy head
And watches his child’s feet
They move like water, fluid, smooth
Fearless, confident, careful and strong
They never have done anything wrong
For in public they have everything to prove.
All the girls are watching
The boys all dream of fame
To pass the time they play their game
Or hide in the bushes plotting.
The wives sit around
After cleaning so thoroughly
Just to avoid a beating narrowly,
When the husbands come home from town.
The children don’t know
The wives pray they never will
Hiding these evil horrors still
They were told this was the best place to go.
