The Golden Lark
The sky above is a cloudless blue
As the sun envelops us with her warmth
Rousing the delicious scent of the grass
And banishing the slick, wet dew
Dragonflies dart here and there
And love bugs tickle my lower legs.
But in the midst of nature’s paradise
Is the girl with the shining golden hair.
Her gait is slow, like she only wishes
To relish the scenery, just like me.
The heavenly sunlight shines so brightly
On her golden hair, like angels’ kisses.
Her eyes; they twinkle like stars or the moon
Like thousands and millions of precious blue diamonds
She takes a deep breath and starts to sing
Of youth, and joy, and freedom she croons
And the birds stopped chirping
And the bees stopped buzzing
And it seemed as if
The world stopped turning
But the sun continued to shine
Forever brightly on her golden hair.
And then she stops and turns to me
And grins from ear to ear
She laughs; the sound of tinkling bells
And darts away, until I can’t see her.
