Zalia and the Jabberwock
To the wooden gale she goes
On this such torely night
The wind a-ray and a-whirly
And fine air a freezing bite
Seldom came the fear when
Her breath rising in a carol
She surried up a hauntful tune
Shaking branches to their marrow
The beast was schnivel in its cave
Thin from food an absence
Waiting for whippered warrior
Then to battle on-grave commence
Sodden moss leak dew under boot
And little bones snap too
She nears Jabberwock’s Fight
Without hearing warnings from under th’shoe
The creature, old, roused creak’ng self
Stretching ork’ed jaws
Ere it be surprised and dead
Jabberwock sprung, talons and paws
The shining rapier t’was exhaled
Heavy to find bloody mark
The beast lunged to bite and tear-
Instead, point met scraggly heart
The Jabberwock sagged, bathing
The young girl in his red
Her arm-strong fading, the sword deep
Fell down to rest ‘side the head
She dragged herself from ‘neath th’beast
Snow clawing at her throat
Red on the white through the pitch,
She start back joyous, spirits afloat
Creature dead, she ventured home
Tired from their fight
She would reach end to-morrow, but now,
She turned in weary to the night
The town was alive, a-waiting
To hear her frightful story
Dallow in their excite, she came
Telling them of her victory, rather gory
No tail no hide no scale brought back she
Nothing to gloat or mock
Just the tale to tell and say:
Beware the Jabberwock.

I was inspired by Lewis Carroll's poems and stories, obviously, and the Alice and Wonderland overall theme. Enjoy!
