The color of things unseen
The pavement trucks thunder over
The sky between the stars
Things that go bump in the night
Muffled footsteps from an invisible source
Chirping and hissing bats
Bitter coffee
Black licorice
The texture of burnt food
Creeping dread
The icy chill making it’s way up your spine
And loneliness that fear masks
Consuming the world in the brightest light
