Oh Mother
Smile Mother you are free,
To the winds and to the sea,
Endless plains to mountain tops,
To canyon bottoms, fields of crops,
Deserts blowing sand askew,
Grasslands filled with waters dew,
Mother Nature, why so sad?
It’s not as if these things are bad,
Smile mother draped in pearls from the sea,
With waves unfurled,
Diamonds flicker in your eyes,
Where mines hide your sparkling prize,
Gems assorted in your sands,
In sacred places, distant lands
Dressed in Earth, you’ll ever be,
Beautiful, can’t you see?
Mother Nature what’s to frown?
Glowing with your golden crown,
Sitting top your tree of life,
Ever growing in its strife,
Look unto, the systems of your skies,
Bejeweled in red with fireflies,
Horizon filled with such a flush,
Mother Nature you are its blush,
I’m rather sorry,
If I’ve scolded you too much,
Now Mother Nature, please don’t cry,
The skies are turning an utmost dye,
Grayer than I’ve ever seen,
Colder than it’s ever been,
Mother Nature, make me glad,
For when it’s cold, I feel so sad,
Don’t cry any more, don’t make it rain,
I’d hate to see you in such pain,
My son, don’t plead with me,
You’ve opened my eyes to a truer beauty,
My son, so kind,
I could not see,
All the gifts given to me,
I do not cry, for I am not sad,
But only happy if it makes you glad

Beautiful reflection on all nature has to offer us... even today when Global Warming and other catastrophes threaten the balance, your poem instills some peace in me that through the tears Mother Nature has shed, and by the will and determination of us, the teenage generation, maybe we can fix up this fallen world a little. Thank you!
