In an Instant
Pages flipped,
and turned to shades of black,
as the inferno smiled,
and burned a brighter light.
Nearby someone watches,
with wide eyes,
and pained features,
as their whole life,
disintegrates before them.
If they reached for it,
they could touch the closest one,
but it's already gone,
its words,
a pool of bloody ink,
and it gives its last cry,
before sinking quietly into the ashes,
where its brothers fought in vain.
In the morning,
the street is testimony,
of what didn't deserve to die.
