Today's Tomorrow
When a baby opens his eyes
He is pure without any disguise
He learns to crawl before he can walk
He only makes noises before he can talk
When a man opens his eyes
Worldly materials are his disguise
He tries to run and not get caught
He thinks he's right even when he's not
When a man's almost gone, he can't open his eyes
He can only reminisce on memories and only hope but to rise
So should we learn from this day, or regret life in sorrow?
After all, who we are today reflects our tomorrow

I wrote this poem as a final exam for my Pre-Ap English II class back in May. I remember reading this proudly in front of my 9th period class. I hope that whoever reads this poem thinks twice about who they are and deeply contemplates on what role they play or would like to play in this struggling generation of ours.
