The Simple Side of Complexity

I’m not smart in the way you want me to be
While your eyes are open your mind is blind
To the fact that how you see me is a result of your superiority
Because I know lots like the beat in my heart
Matches the beat in my step
Which matches the beat I bang on the drum
The drums I dance to
The dance I do
Is a translation of the vibrations that sound deep within my chest
Deep beyond my breast
But women are beautiful
And they understand that in order to hold a man’s hand
You don’t have to walk straight or crooked
You can take a path unread
And if you’re illiterate I’ll teach you body language
Because the exchange hasn’t changed
It’s still full of empty concern
Topped with false smiles and lost focus
It’s not hard to articulate
It’s not hard to eradicate
the hate that burns in us all
and drives us off the wall
that’s why when you dance you let that sunshine in
melting the rest away
My IQ is lacking you say?
What discoveries about the world did
you
uncover today?

Hey Liana... I really like your poem, and was wondering if you could break it down to me. I'm a grad student at SUNY New Paltz studying literacy in diverse learners. What were you feeling when you wrote this poem? What made you write this poem; any specific action or something that someone else said/did to you? What do you want the readers of this work to realize, or more importantly what exactly are you trying to say here? Thanks a lot :)
