I never really thought that
You’d be gone
I guess I
Took it for granted
What you
Were going through
The hospital was never far
But now I can’t be where you are

All her teachers say she was an angel
I guess that she really is one now
All of her friends say she was an angel
I guess I’ll never really know now

I heard that you’d gotten on the list
And assumed you got better
I guess I
Took it for granted
That slowly
But surely
The weight on your shoulders just built up
Eventually, they just crushed

All her teachers say she was an angel
I guess that she really is one now
All of her friends say she was angel
I guess I’ll never really know now

The things I took for granted
Like a healthy pair of lungs
I never thought I’d ever wish
That I could give mine up
’Cause I would’ve given mine up

All her teachers say she was an angel
An angel’s someone that you’ll rarely find
Now that you really are an angel
Forgive me for never having enough time

But can you ever really have enough?
Especially when he’s calling you up

The author's comments:
I had known for a long time that this girl that was friends with my one of my best friends had Cystic Fibrosis. I never got to meet her. When I heard she died, it hit me really hard, even though I only knew her by name. My friend cried so much at school; she didn't cry when she cracked her head open. I'd always intended on meeting her one day or another, the severity of the situation never really crossed my mind. I wrote this after I'd heard she died two years ago. Everyone always said how wonderful she was, but can you really say anything else about someone who's dying?
