Pattern Dreamer

November 20, 2008
By Anonymous

To the stars I am but dim
For I do not shine as bright as they,
With excellent brilliance- ruling the night
But hidden from curious eyes in day

To be a star is- in every dream
Even perhaps it may be thine,
To glow like an ember, guide the sky
But I fear friend, that dream is not mine

I am not one, for a pattern
Which is due to twist and decay,
Their vivacious sparkle will not last
A devastation only tattered and frayed

Instead dear friend, I will be the moon
Forever seen, if you would only but find,
Unlike the stars, I am always steady
And will remain long after their time.

The author's comments:
I wrote this with no real idea what I was writing about, just started writing. As I read it to friends throughout the day, they wondered what the meaning of it was. Well if you would choose, it could be about others choosing drugs and you standing firm. Or it could be about you being a loyal friend. And if you have some other explanation or meaning for it, it's completely fine.

I like the use of vocabulary, and how its brief but clear. The deep meaning can be related to a lot of different people and different circumstances and makes it more special then other poems I've read. It's good notice because it reminds anyone about not being led astray. Very well written!!

I enjoy reading my grandaaughters poetry. She inherits this gift from me, I believe, because I also write poetry, and enjoy reading it.
