Winter
Why are you doing this to me?
I love you so much.
I forgave you
And even as you were sucking the life from me I watched
you thrive with awe and trusted that
next year would be better.
Must you coax the sun into taking sleeping pills
at four in the afternoon?
My body and soul are drained and I don’t sleep
despite your efforts to make me.
I wrote you a love poem.
You’re written in my name.
And yet you fight me,
I have been holding a flag of your favorite color
for nearly three years
and you continue to fight me,
What have I done to deserve this misery?
Did I complain too much about cold feet?
Did I show too much weakness?
I am made of glass but what does it matter to you?
How can I fix this.
What happened to the time when I could lay with you
and watch little pieces of you fall
and surround me
and how can I get it back.
I can no longer resist you.
Please.
I am begging you.
Have mercy.
