Ridden
As foliage thickens over the frost laden ground,
One leaf sneaks underneath a stagnant boulder,
Trapping the leaf from its peers.
Gazing around,
The leaf notices wind carry them away,
Until none are left.
Lonely, cold and withered,
Snow begins to fall,
Numbing and hiding the fragile amber leaf.
Frozen, shattered, and beaten,
The birds begin to chatter,
Until a sun shower scatters them away.
Hopeful, distant, and determined,
The leaf endures the blistering sun,
And the shivering rains, until autumn appears, again.
Soon enough,
The leaf is surrounded by its peers,
Home to stay . . .
Until the winter comes, again.
