Bittersweet Honey
As fragile as a feather,
I hold it close and tight.
I tried to protect it from the weather
And it worked alright
Until it fell on black petals.
The days become less sunny
As it slipped through my fingertips
Like bittersweet honey.
Left there was only a golden drop.
I looked up at the darkening sky
When I heard a slight plop.
Looking down, I began to cry.
My greatest treasure was lost
In the world below
Where there was only imaginary frost
And invisible snow.
