The Crash (In Imitation of the Lorelei)
Gently, slowly, sweetly,
She comes to him and sees
His gentle face surrounded by sun
Crashing against the waves.
He gently, gently, takes her hand
As they walk along the beach.
Waves crash against the sandy shore
Their feet just out of reach.
He slowly, slowly asks for more.
She forgets reality,
Ignoring her friends cries of warning,
She walks close to the rocky sea.
He sweetly, sweetly wants everything.
Blindly she falls, giving it all.
He takes it, not willing to catch her.
Crying, calling, faster she falls.
Crashing, screaming, she calls to the boy,
Not knowing her fall’s what he wanted.
Reaching, grasping, she falls to the reef.
These shores, forevermore, haunted.
Gently, slowly, sweetly sinking,
Held close to the wave’s cool breast,
She’s carried farther into the sea,
Where she’s sadly laid to rest.
