His hubris knows no bounds
His arrogance astounds.
Contentious, he applauds
The litigious; he’s flawed.

Eagerly, he awaits
That long-appointed date.
Blasé, simply coasting,
Cynical, he’s estranged
From reality; his façade.


The author's comments:
A bleak self-commentary in addition to an observation of the narcissistic
nature of my peer group whom I have observed to be increasingly disillusioned with the reality they find themselves living in.

I chose to write this piece (my first poem) in two stanzas, with each line expressed with six syllables, save the final line, which I wrote with 8 syllables.
