The paths we choose
I've seen through eyes that are not mine and walked in different shoes
Their paths cross mine and lead away to paths that I could choose
I watch as others idle by and others run away
I keep some people close to me and others out at bay
We build up walls along our paths to keep some things inside
But others keep things out like they have everything to hide
And written in our eyes are words our mouths will never say
For fear controls our silent tongues and courage points the way
I've seen through eyes that are not mine and crossed this path before
So with closed eyes and worn-in shoes I'll walk forevermore.
