"if you're not 1st you're last"

I am an observer who’s seen society’s true face
I wonder why few believe while many have lost their way
I hear the cries for help as they echo through the gutters
I see the harm we cause to ourselves and others
I want to wake up and realize this is just a dream
I am an observer who’s seen society’s true face

I pretend everyday while saying I’m okay
I feel pain and only pain to the point where I am numb
I’ve touched the scares left by life
I worry that they will never truly heal
I cry inside, for enough tears have been shed
I am an observer who’s seen society’s true face

I understand only that I can never understand
I speak the truth to those with open ears and endless minds
I dream of the day I can finally rest
I try and try to make it through
I hope one day to regain my ability to hope
I am an observer who’s seen society’s true face

In the stanza before last, you meant to say scars, not scares. Your writing is beautiful. I like your style.

This is really good. :) I loved the line "I understand only that I can never understand". You wrote this in a way that forces people to stop and think. Great job!

Nice job, I really related to this. It's easy to feel like you're on the outside, but I think you had really great insight into society! Well written, awesome piece.

I wholeheartedly agree with poet100. It's simple and direct, and it has such a powerful meaning. GREAT job. I especially love these lines:

"I understand only that I can never understand
I speak the truth to those with open ears and endless minds
I dream of the day I can finally rest
I try and try to make it through
I hope one day to regain my ability to hope
I am an observer who’s seen society’s true face"

^LOVE!!!

Direct and spectacular. There is no overly complicated plot or wording. It is straight to the point and boy is it strong. Fantastic job. Keep it up!!
