expectation is the soil
in which floats
and which contains
the stagnant fruit of
problem.
it is a torch to the most
noncandescent of relationships
setting ablaze with “typical”
“of course”
and burns holes
in the wings of possibility
it makes
for
a poor travel companion
which empties, depletes, and expels
all traces of delight in today.
unmet,
leaving the mind
a fragile shipwreck
chained to sand
instead of gliding over endless azure
