The Car Ride
Screams echo through the halls,
as my eyes fill with tears.
But feet pound up the stairs
and a door slams in my face.
The radio plays a non-descript tune
while silence fills the plush interior.
The quiet scathing begins and loudens
and the "yes dear's" start to emerge.
I try to block it out but it's too loud.
The wheel violently lurches towards the river
and I reach to turn it back away,
but my 'safety belt' locks me in place.
The rail leaves me yield to a Subaru.
As we plummet to our deaths for a fight,
she screams, he pounds the horn.
But neither, neither apologize.
