Just Walk Away
You tell me I'm the only thing you'll ever need.
You say I'm all you want and so much more.
But the truth echoes in this empty room,
as do your footsteps heading for the door.
You just walk away,
without putting up a fight,
or placing a kiss upon my cheek.
I wish I could chase after you,
but my knees are far too weak.
If I stand, I may fall.
And lately I've learned, falling can be quite dangerous.
Because Love doesn't always come wrapped in pretty ribbons and lace.
Sometimes you fall, you fall head over hills...
And you land right on your face.
Sometimes there's no one there to pick you up,
to help you off the ground;
because that someone who promised they'd always be there...
is all too often, never around.
It's then when not even happy memories of what once was can do the trick.
Because sometimes love infects your heart, poisons your veins, and you're left forever sick.
So, I'll just pick myself up off the floor,
and do as you have to me, so many times before.
I'll leave.
But I won't just walk away,
I'll run.
