Downcast Solider
My hearts pulse quickens each time my foot meets the earth
I hear the sound it makes when I rush across the maroon stained ground
All I think about is how I won’t be able to see my child’s birth
Men lie sprawled across the dirt, always lost but never found
An eternity Ill spend wondering why
And hoping not to perish in vain
Ill still searching for an easy way to say goodbye
Maybe I will always be an unknown solider unable to explain
Until then Ill just bide my time
Singing my despondent rhyme
