Beauty and the Bass Guitar
Burning
Fingers ache and blister—
But why would you care?
I only play out my heart for you
till the darkness of night fades to dawn
Longing
for a day when the songs
seep through cherry wood
and into your ears, where you can hear
everything I’ve wanted to tell you
Carving
from a living tree, shaped
by an artist’s hands
a work of great beauty and power:
bass guitar—when words fail music speaks
Daunting
is my fierce weapon, shakes
the room with thunder
or moans softly like a sleeping god;
the foundation of all harmony
Holding
on tightly to the loom
where I have woven
the dreams and stories of time well spent
wishing that someday I could be yours
