Scribbles
I’ve given you up like a broken friend
like the mother I’m sure I’ll never know again
like the innocence I lost just months ago
like the demon unleashed out my bedroom window
I’ve been scared to meet you on any night
remembering the pain beneath the delight
I know your disguise and I’m always lured in
and by the time I realize, the lights have gone dim
you’re frightening and truthful and very persistent
but I’m stronger and smarter and very resistant
but it’s been months of fighting and I’ve grown rather weak
so I grab my pen, too tired to speak
I’ve surrendered at last, I lift my hands and I show them
and clutched in the left, is a scribbled-down poem
