Upon A Night
A horse
trotting along the patterned pavement
the click- click beneath its feet.
A carriage
trailing the horse, carrying something
within.
Eyes
brighter than the moon,
greener than the grass,
more beautiful than life itself;
but still
duller than the gray of the fog,
as colorless as a blackened heart,
as ugly as the millions of scars
beneath
the
surface.
A pumpkin
turns into a carriage
for one night
of enchanted bliss.
A carriage
loses its magic
at the stroke of a clock;
and the eyes,
brighter than the moon,
greener than the grass,
more beautiful than life itself
lose their gaze
as the moon
gleams upon a horse
as it trots
along
a
colorless
night.
