In My Hand I Hold
Grandmother's gift from twelve years ago
Green seaweed jade with
Speckles of yellow and oyster pearls' white
Sounds of tap, tap, tap
Light rainfall sprinkling on a puddle of mud
Tastes of smooth white rice cooking
Under a roof of banana tree leaves
Cool at first but warm after long
Smooth solid with admirable ridges
Caring presence flows from it
Light around my neck
The weight disappears
Serenity and homeland
A guardian from Vietnam
Buddha and grandma
Will always be with me
