Morning's Goodbye
The sun has come,
Bearing an abundance of gifts.
First light toys with my eyelids
Warming my face.
An unwanted sign of daybreak.
With it come reminders
Of a long kiss goodnight,
A savored bittersweet memory.
My thoughts gather
Into a beaming smile;
The one you’ve always adored.
In that moment before
We must come to our senses,
Without hesitation,
I reach out to you,
And seize the hand imprinted
By my own.
These few seconds we have,
I cherish.
In only a moment,
Everything that was
Will be lost, locked away.
Our lips meet,
Sealing the end.
