On the Sea at Twilight
The ship rocks and the clock tocks
While I mop up the deck,
The ship rocks and the clock tocks
But the waves aren’t stopping yet.
The moon dulls and the current pulls
As I look ahead for the morn’,
The moon dulls and the current pulls
But the darkness leaves me forlorn.
The clouds deflate and the dawn awaits
Yet the horizon remains a blur,
The clouds deflate and the dawn awaits
And I pray the light will bring a cure.
The fog thins for a moment as I muse:
“The sun will come, but for what use?
To blind the world with its neon light,
To scorch us all with its heated might?”
The winds rise but the sails die—
The remedy won’t come at day,
The sails die yet the winds rise—
The remedy… it has already gone away.
